The property is well maintained, lots of space, we enjoyed the pool, there is an indoor and outdoor pool. It wasn't busy at all. The lake is across the street which was very convenient. The rooms are very outdated and there is an awkward smell, almost moldy. The property is not accessible, we had a stroller and there aren't any ramps or elevators to the rooms. Also, when checking out, there was an unknown charge on my room which I told the front desk was not mine but she would not let it go. Eventually, after like 20 minutes of investigating said it was a mistake. This was very inconvenient for us, we were hoping to check out quickly and get on the road. I asked several times if this could be dealt with after as my husband and infant were waiting in the car for me. Be sure to keep your receipts. I think someone had used our room number for their own lunch. Be careful.
We spent two nights at The Briar's July 24th to 26th 2019. It is a stunning and beautiful property with a lot of history. The manor building is very old but very grand. The decor, the antiques, the paintings and furniture take you back to an earlier era. There are lots of stairs which impacts anyone with mobility issues. The food is outstanding but a little slow getting to the table. A very quiet, relaxed slow pace atmosphere. Lots of activities available but not a lot of young active people were there. A lot of seniors including us. We were a bit disappointed that The Briar's does not restrict smoking. It was present anywhere outside and on balconies. We also did not like the smell of the wood burning fire which is located at the outdoor dining area. Most of the time there were no flames just smoke. There is a nice little sandy beach down the road. We only found out about it from another guest. Lounges chairs provided. Overall a lovely relaxing visit.
We stayed for a weekend. The food is very good and the menu has a large selection. The rooms are tired. Mattress uncomfortable, our TV did not function properly. Channels could not be changed. Stuck on my meeting channel. Two pools are not heated. Even with the heat it was uncomfortable. Nothing to do there at night. We would not go back.
This is a great spot off the beaten track. The food, service and accommodation is as would expect. It was memorable and reasonably priced. We'll be back.
Lovely place, quaint and quiet. We've been there many times. Everything is always perfect except the dining room. They pride themselves on what they call relaxed service. "We don't rush you" the manager keeps saying. No matter how many times we said we're hungry and want food the restaurant just can't understand. Sitting at a table for over an hour waiting for your food to arrive just isn't acceptable. And rather than apologize for the wait, the manager is actually proud that it is so slow.
